Writer's Block: Eat, Drink, Be Merry

[Error: unknown template qotd]

Two words. Oyster. Dressing.

Two items that should never, ever, come together in any form. Ever.

Green bean casserole, if made with canned green beans. Canned green beans are an abomination. Same goes for 3-bean salad.

I am happy to say I have never experienced oyster dressing.

Also, wtf is with turduckens?

Your icon makes me very happy! :)

I can do green bean casserole if I make it...the way my old aunt from Mississippi made it. This new stuff tastes like cardboard.

Anything with the word "turd" in it should be totally out of the food chain. Just sayin'. :)

This is more of a Christmas thing; my answer is Lutefisk. It's a Scandinavian Disaster Specialty. It is on our family table every Christmas. Euuuuwwww!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk

[identity profile] justkimu.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Lutefisk is pretty nasty stuff - never eaten it, but have seen how they make it. YUCK!

Also - I got my holiday catalog from the Scandanavian place (don't have it next to me...so I can't remember the name).

*loves you*

(still have to send that package out - kiddos have been sick and I've been homebound)

Lutefisk.

[identity profile] jennifergroovy.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never tried it, never will. It's enough just having to watch people eat it, ha ha!

I'm curious about the catalog. Did I tell you MG has joined the Scandinavian Club at her high school? There's a Scandinavian Specialties store across the street from her school.

Don't worry about the package until you have time. I'm amazed at all you do with four kids in tow. You're multi-talented m'dear!

~loves you back~

Should I try to call this weekend? Are you going out of town or anything?

[identity profile] brandedeclipse.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You are correct again.
That has to be the nastiest texture combo.

(Although my friend L makes a "Cream-style corn" that's right up there.

[identity profile] justkimu.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
It is scary.

Cream corn should only go in cornbread.

:)

[identity profile] brandedeclipse.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
While I like cream corn in general, hers becomes more like curds and corn. *shudder*

I'm going to imagine that oyster dressing is actually oysters wearing little dresses and suits because the alternative is too nasty to contemplate.

[identity profile] justkimu.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, do that. The alternative is like some kind of odd Twilight Zone episode.

Ewww. I forgot about that. My father made it one year...stunk up the whole house. Just...ew.

I do not even want to know what turduckens is/are. Or Lutefisk. I am way to scared to click on the link.

[identity profile] bifemmefatale.livejournal.com 2008-11-25 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Bone a hen but keep it whole. Do the same to a duck and a turkey. Stuff the hen inside the duck and the duck inside the turkey. Cook.

Why, I do not know.

Lutefisk is fish preserved in lye until it becomes some sort of obscene fish jello. Only people that have gone insane from a winter spent in darkness would think of eating it.

Now I'm so glad I didn't marry my ex, since he's a Swede, and we'd just have divorced over whether this terrible crime against icthyoids would ever pass my lips.

Also, I read your instructions for making "turduckens" to my husband, and he laughed like an idiot after the first three words, because he's a pervert. :D

[identity profile] raw-julie.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
FISH JELLO!!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
That is just....wrong. On oh-so-many levels.

[identity profile] justkimu.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Just run. Run from them both.

*hugs you*

gross. oyster anything, eww.

i'm not at all fond of cranberries, either.

[identity profile] justkimu.livejournal.com 2008-11-26 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed to the oyster stuff...

Cranberries are good in juice, or with loads of sugar. Otherwise they should just feed the bird population. ;)

My eyes are wide, and my jaw had fallen until I realised that in that posture someone could possibly feed me said atrocity.

MOUTH IS CLOSED NOW. I require hot white chocolate (<3 <3 <3 Second Cup, who makes this so well up here) to reopen. Yup.
