It reminds me of a portion of verses from the Christian Bible. I can't remember exact location, but somewhere in the Gospels, Jesus tells someone that before they go and point out the "specks" in someone else's eyes, to remove the thing that is in their eye. If I get a chance today, I'll look it up and see if I can find it.
